COMMON QUESTIONS

What is an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)?

An Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) provides authorization for non-Australian citizens to travel to and enter Australia and is electronically linked to your passport. It is for short term stays for either tourism or business visitor activities.

How long can I stay in Australia?

The ETA will allow you to stay in Australia for a maximum of three months for each visit. An ETA is valid for 12 months and provides you the ability to enter multiple times in 12 months, for up to 90 days each time.

Are my children approved under my application?

No. All family members must make separate ETA applications. Even if your children travel on your passport, they will need an individual ETA application.

This website can be used to apply for an ETA for all members of your family traveling with you provided they also meet all the online ETA eligibility criteria.

How long will my application take to process?

ETA visas are typically processed and approved with confirmations issued within an hour. Depending on the time your passport information and application are submitted, it can take up to, but not exceeding 24 hours (maximum 1 hour for urgent applications).

What happens if I am not approved?

In the case that your ETA application is not approved you should make another visa application through the nearesAustralian visa office. ETA processing fees are non-refundable.

Do I need a printed confirmation?

You may print the your confirmation email for your own records, however you are not required to have any printed documents for your ETA.  The ETA confirmation is electronically linked to your passport and accessible by airline and immigration officials.

When you check-in for your flight to Australia, airline staff will use your passport details to check if you have a valid visa to travel to Australia before allowing you to board the aircraft. This is processed electronically using the Advance Passenger Processing (APP) system.

If you are from the remaining 21 ETA eligible countries, you must use a travel agency or service such as ours to apply.

What do I need to make an application?

To make an application for an ETA through this website you need your valid passportemail address and a credit card.

How do I apply online?

To apply for an ETA online, APPLY HERE. You must be outside Australia and intending to visit for tourism or business visitor activities.

If you do not hold a passport from any of the eligible countries, you cannot apply for an ETA online. You might be eligible to apply for other types of online visitor visas directly with an Australian Visa office.

It is important that the details provided for your ETA application are EXACTLY the same as they appear in your passport.

Is there an age restriction?

No age restriction apply. Eligible passport holders of all ages can apply for an ETA.

What can I do if I make a mistake on my application?

It is important that you are very careful when you enter your personal details. You will have an opportunity to review all the details you have provided and can change the details at any time until you confirm all details as correct.

If you find out later that you have made a mistake, you will need to make a amendment to your application (and incur a $5 non-refundable service charge). AMEND ETA.

What will my confirmation look like?
